Italian car manufacturer Pagani Automobili has pointed to the NTT IndyCar Series and its pioneering Air Screen driver safety device as a creative influence in the design of the new Huayra R Evo supercar. The limited edition V12-powered screamer is expected to cost up to $3 million once a final price is determined.
“The inspiration for the Huayra R Evo design struck me during the Indy race in Nashville,” said company founder and chief designer Horacio Pagani. “Just as I noticed single-seater cars with their aero screens, the idea of creating a car with polycarbonate protective surfaces and the option to remove the two roof panels to fully immerse yourself in the gravity of the air and the captivating sound of the engine, blew my mind.”
“From that moment on, we set out with the aim of creating a beautiful car, whatever the term, harmonious in its lines and strong in its character. The end result is a true descendant of the Huayra R, one of the cars that our customers love most.
Pagani says the Huayra R Evo features a 50 percent increase in downforce through a combination of applications of the IndyCar and Le Mans prototype aerodynamic concept.
“We also took inspiration from the elegance of the Le Mans cars that graced the racetracks in the 1960s and 1970s, including the long-tailed ‘Coudalonga’ rapid prototypes,” he said. “With these stylistic foundations, we meticulously addressed aerodynamics, design and every minute detail, while adhering to standards.” High standards are synonymous with Pagani Automobili and the expectations of our distinguished customers.
“This synergy has resulted in optimal aerodynamic performance while ensuring safe and predictable behavior in all conditions. As a result, there is an impressive 45 percent increase in downforce and a 21 percent increase in aerodynamic efficiency with the same resistance.
“Of particular interest is the open roof, which, contrary to expectations, enhances aerodynamic efficiency. The open roof design increases the front and rear vertical load, enhancing the overall downforce by an additional five percent.
