Sussex Police are launching an investigation of manslaughter and would like to speak to a man and a woman after a violent confrontation in Brighton.

The pair are believed they may have vital information about the incident along with several other people, which occurred near Creams restaurant, Western Road in Brighton at around 11pm on Sunday 2 December.

On Monday 17 December, the man fell seriously ill and was admitted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition until his death on Sunday (30 December).

Detective Inspector Chris Thompson said: “We’d like to talk to anyone who can identify the man and woman pictured here or anyone who may have witnessed this incident.”

The incident was reported to police at the time, but the man did not seek medical treatment immediately after the attack, when his condition dramatically worsened.

The police are investigating the incident as manslaughter to determine how he did, the events leading up to his death, and whether injuries sustained in the assault contributed towards his death.

DI Thompson also said the police welcome information from anyone who has knowledge of events leading up to the assault.

If you have any information, report details online or phone 101, quoting Operation Hughes, or the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111, anonymously if you so wish, with any information you may have.
