Samsung has reportedly hired a former Apple Siri director to head its new AI division

While Samsung has introduced many new features that work with artificial intelligence Galaxy S24 Earlier this year, the AI-powered digital voice assistant Bixby didn’t receive much attention.

A new report claims that Samsung is hiring a former Apple employee responsible for Siri’s contextual and conversational awareness to lead a new AI team.

Apple Siri is said to be leading Samsung’s newly formed AI team

Over the past few years, Bixby seems to have fallen further behind its competitors Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. However, Samsung may have plans to revamp Bixby and its other AI efforts by hiring a former Apple employee. according to a report By Mark Gurman, Bloomberg’s usually reliable correspondent Samsung has appointed Murat Akbacak to lead its newly formed unit, the North American Center for Artificial Intelligence.

Murat Akbacak’s profile is on LinkedIn He says he still works at Apple and is the head of conversational and context AI at Siri. However, if Bloomberg’s report is accurate, Akpacak could serve out his notice period at Apple. Apparently, Samsung made this announcement internally this week, while Apple was busy announcing Apple Intelligence and all of its new AI features for iPadOS 18, iOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

Samsung will reportedly gather its teams in Toronto and Mountain View, California. According to an internal memo, Samsung has merged these two teams to improve operations and increase efficiency.

Since AI is an exciting new trend, companies like Apple and Samsung are aggressively introducing new AI features and services into their products.

At Apple, Akpacak was responsible for “Define and execute the strategy for Siri, Apple’s personal digital assistant, with a focus on personalization, context, and advances in conversational and multimedia AI.“He can bring this extensive experience to improve Bixby and Galaxy AI on Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem of devices.

Samsung’s new leader is an artificial intelligence researcher who worked on voice assistants when he worked at Microsoft ten years ago.
