We love being part of a team that can help create a culture where everyone feels they belong. Belonging looks different for everyone, but when we listen and value everyone’s perspectives, thoughtful change can happen.
Earlier this year, we took a step to make shopping in our stores more inclusive for those with sensory impairments by taking measures to create a less stimulating environment for a few hours every Saturday. During the back-to-school season, we changed the TV walls to a still image, turned off the radio and dimmed the lights where possible. Feedback on the pilot program has been very positive. These changes may have seemed small to some, but they changed the shopping experience for others. The biggest piece of feedback we have? Let her continue!
We’re excited to share with you that we’re bringing back sensory-friendly hours of 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. local time, not just on Saturdays, but every day at all Walmart stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, starting November 10, with no planned end date. . During these hours, we hope our customers and partners find the stores a little easier on their eyes and ears. These changes are due to those who shared comments about how their stores can help them feel a sense of belonging.
