A massive solar storm is approaching Earth this Friday Northern lights in the most unlikely places.

The storm, which is expected to last through the weekend, will come at a time The Sun is approaching the peak of its 11-year cycle of intense activity.

The largest solar storm on record was the “Carrington Event” of 1859: it destroyed the telegraph network in the United States, provided electrical discharges and the Northern Lights were seen at unprecedented latitudes as far as Central America.

In the Argentinian province of Tierra del Fuego, the sky was also tinted red by the effect of auroras (X: @SatelitesArg).
