Spotify was stumbling on Sunday morning, with thousands of users reporting technical issues accessing the streaming service.
Spotify’s user error reports began rising around 10:45 a.m. ET on September 29, according to uptime monitoring service Downdetector. The number of complaints had reached more than 9,000 by 11 a.m. and more than 15,000 as of 11:35 a.m., according to Downdetector. In the Spotify desktop app, some users were greeted with the error message, “Something went wrong,” and attempts to play songs and albums were unsuccessful. Smartphone apps for streaming were also unresponsive for many users.
User reports on Downdetector have extended to the US, with issues also reported by Spotify listeners in Canada and other countries.
On Sunday, the Spotify Cares customer service account will be available on X to publish 12:15 PM ET, “We are currently aware of some issues with the app and are investigating them!”
In responses to some users on The support team also recommended users to try logging out, rebooting their devices, and logging in again.
Spotify – like every other broadly offered online service – has seen intermittent outages in the past. In March 2022, for example, users of the service had issues logging in, with Spotify saying their username and password were incorrect; These issues were resolved after about an hour and a half.
As of the end of June, Spotify reported a total of 626 million monthly active users, a sequential increase of 11 million, including 246 million premium subscribers (adding 7 million in Q2). The company reported record quarterly net profit of €274 million on revenue of €3.81 billion, up 20% year-on-year.
