Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack category got off to a slow start with a few Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance releases and DLC, but has grown steadily over time. We’re now in the third year of this higher-priced tier and an email has been sent out letting fans know to “stay tuned” for what’s coming in 2025.
Although there are no specific details to share yet, here’s exactly what Nintendo had to say (Thanks, Joe Nintendo):
Nintendo: “What excitement will next year bring for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members? Stay tuned to find out!”
Just last week, the Game Boy Advance’s legacy Switch Online library added two F-Zero games. Previous additions to the same premium tier include new Nintendo 64 games and even DLC packs for Switch versions like the Splatoon, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing series.
This latest update about the future of the Expansion Pack tier also comes as a surprise – as the company announced a special playtest program related to a “new feature.” This playtest is available exclusively to Switch Online + Expansion Pack members who have registered their interest. Nintendo has also asked participants not to discuss or reveal anything related to this upcoming playtest.
And 2025 comes with rumors of a “successor” launch for the Switch set to be announced “this fiscal year.”
