the Los Angeles Rams in the middle Re-shuffle a group of positions On the coaching staff of Sean McVay. That to-do list got a bit shorter as the club brought in Mike Lafleur to be their next offensive coordinator, The team announced Friday. Lafleur was seen as the favorite to land the gig after he and W.B New York Jets They mutually decided to part ways earlier this season, and Anderson mentioned Thursday that he had the “inside track” to the gig he finally got.

During the period when McVay was still contemplating his future in the NFL before deciding to return to stay as Los Angeles coach, he saw former Rams offensive coordinator Liam Quinn Back to the University of Kentucky to be her OC after one season in the NFL. Quinn was hired by the Rams after Kevin O’Connell accepted the head coaching job Minnesota Vikings post offseason.

During the 2022 campaign, the Rams sustained injuries on both sides of the ball, but particularly on offense as eventual quarterback Matthew Stafford and Cooper Cobb were both shut down for the year. Partly because of those injuries, Los Angeles’ offense struggled, finishing 23rd in the NFL in DVOA and last in the league in total yards per game (280.5).

They’ll be looking to change that with LaFleur, who has an affinity for McVay because of their relationship with him 49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan. Before becoming the Jets’ offensive coordinator in 2021, LaFleur climbed the coaching ladder under Shanahan by stopping with BrownAnd hawk and 49ers. In San Francisco, he was the passing game coordinator before jumping to the OC with New York. McVay also served under Shanahan from 2010 to 2013 while in Washington.

With the Jets, LaFleur did not find massive success on the offensive side of the ball. In 2021 the club ranked 31st in both points and total yards but saw a huge improvement in 2022 ranking 25th in total yards and 31st in touchdown passes. Much of that was due to insufficient playing in the quarterback position, especially in the last three weeks of this season for New York as the team averaged just five points per game.

Despite those difficulties on offense, LaFleur and the Jets mutually agreed to part ways so the OC could pursue other opportunities around the league. Now, he has found that next opportunity in Los Angeles.
