If you need a compact, portable USB-C charger, Genki’s TurboCharger might be the answer. The gaming accessory maker says its new gallium nitride (GaN) accessory is the “flattenest” 100W wall charger on the market, able to fold down to a thickness of just 18mm (0.7 inches) for easy packing.
The TurboCharger is Power Delivery (PD 3.0) compatible and has a pair of USB-C ports on the bottom, each capable of delivering up to 100W or a split 65W/30W if charging two devices at once. Its slim design also means it can fit comfortably in tight spaces like behind sofas or cabinets, and it keeps its weight closer to the wall for a more secure connection and less likely to fall. And while the TurboCharger is aimed at gaming laptop owners — providing enough power for the ROG Ally’s Turbo performance mode, for example — there’s no reason you can’t use it for other gadgets.
However, it was launched as part of a Kickstarter campaign, and if the risks of crowdfunding aren’t your thing, you can get it for a special price of $48, which the company says will later rise to $60 when it’s available to everyone.
One criticism of this design is that the charger could block secondary outlet ports or even an entire row of power strips. Competing offerings like Anker’s $84.99 Prime Foldable Charger avoid this by placing the prongs at the end. But in order to get the best of both worlds (at the expense of wattage), Anker is also preparing to release a slim, 65W charger later this year that can fold the prongs in either direction.
