Verdansk is finally returning to Call of Duty Warzone, and fans are thrilled about it

Call of Duty Warzone brings back the map that started it all: Verdansk.

Activision has confirmed the return of what may be the most iconic open-world map in Warzone history as part of COD: NextToday, we celebrated this news with a special post on X/Twitter. This announcement puts an end to rumors that the map would be returning for months.

We now know that Verdansk — along with popular points of interest like the stadium, train station, and department store — will finally return in spring 2025. It’s unclear whether these will be modified in any way or whether they will still be as players remember them when they finally launch in Warzone. There’s also no specific release date revealed yet.

The Verdansk map first appeared alongside the launch of Call of Duty Warzone in March 2020. It was a significant occasion for Call of Duty players as it coincided with COVID-19 lockdowns, giving fans ample time to fully explore the map in what has evolved into a worthwhile standalone battle royale mode. However, as Activision continued to release additional installments in the first-person shooter series, the Verdansk map was phased out in 2021 in favor of new maps like Urzikstan, Vondel, and Al Mazrah. While the new maps radically changed the gameplay with new areas to fight through, many have argued that no Warzone map has come close to the heights of Verdansk.

The location has finally been determined. Returning as a playable map in Call of Duty Warzone MobileBut those on consoles have been without them since 2021. That will change early next year. News that Activision is bringing back the first Warzone map has players excited, with many turning to X to celebrate what could be the mode’s biggest reveal in years.

Meanwhile, COD: Next showed off a box full of other announcements related to Warzone, Zombies, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in general. One of the announcements showed off another new map for Warzone known as Area 99, home of the popular multiplayer map, Nuketown.This new Resurgence location will arrive in conjunction with Season 1.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will help you wait in Verdansk when it launches on October 25, 2024. The closed beta for the multiplayer game will take place this weekend.with an open beta launching in early September.
