World of Warcraft’s The War Within expansion launches in the multi-part Worldsoul Saga next year

BlizzCon brought big news for World of Warcraft fans as the MMO prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year; Not only did Blizzard announce its next expansion, The War Within, but the next two expansions after that, all of which form chapters in the newly revealed Worldsoul Saga.

The Worldsoul Saga was enthusiastically revealed by Blizzard veteran Chris Metzen, who returned to the company late last year after leaving in 2016. The new World of Warcraft story is set to unfold across multiple expansions over the next few years, starting with The War. Within – WoW’s tenth expansion – in 2024.

War Within takes players into the heart of Azeroth itself, where they will explore new subterranean kingdoms, interacting with ancient cultures such as the Earth Dwarves – a new allied race – and the terrifying Nairobians of Azj-Kahet. The Azj-Kahet region is one of several new regions coming in the expansion, along with the Isle of Dorne, The Ringing Deeps, and Hallowfall.

According to Blizzard’s quick review of The War Inside, it will also introduce new bite-sized experiences for 1-5 players known as Delves, promising end-game rewards; Then there are Warbands – which enable players to share the likes of their bank and reputation between their alters – as well as a new dynamic vehicle journey, new dungeons and raids, as well as Hero Talents, which are described as a new level of customization that can be used to create the likes of Dark Guardians and far-reaching wizards.

But Metzen did not stop at the 2024 expansion; He also revealed the next two chapters in the Worldsoul Saga: Midnight and The Last Giant. Midnight will transport players back to the ancient world and the mythical lands of Quel’Thalas, where invading Void forces attempt to extinguish the light of the Sunwell and plunge Azeroth into darkness and fear. Although mechanical details are still under wraps, we do know that it will see players reunite the elven tribes of Azeroth and side with the forces of light.

Announcing the trailer for World of Warcraft – Cataclysm Classic.

but! Things may not go as planned, causing events to spiral out of control, leading to the third expansion to the Worldsoul Saga, The Last Titan. This will take players once again to the Old World, this time to the wintry lands of Northrend, where they will witness the return of the giants and uncover a vast conspiracy spanning the history of the world. Obviously, this will challenge everything players think they know about giants, their intentions, and the true nature of Azeroth itself.

So, there’s a lot to think about as Blizzard prepares for the arrival of The War Within next year, but that’s not all that’s been revealed in World of Warcraft. Blizzard also confirmed that Cataclysm will be coming to World of Warcraft Classic in the “first half of next year,” and that the Classic base game is set to get a new Discovery Season on November 30.

This will launch with a level cap of 25 and revolve around searching the world for secrets and class-changing abilities – with the excitement of a tank warlock and a magic wizard. It will also feature an all-new endgame, as well as a new 10-player Blackfathom Deeps raid with new and reimagined bosses, mechanics, and rewards. Several months into the season, the level cap will be raised as new things are found, and this trend will continue.
