Nintendo gave N64 fans a big surprise this week, announcing that Rare’s 3D platformer Banjo-Tooie will be joining the Expansion Pack service next week. October 25, 2024.
As part of this announcement, Rare (now known for titles like Sea of Thieves) took to social media to express their excitement about fans having access to this classic game in “another modern way.” Here’s what the UK-based studio had to say:
“Banjo-Tooie! on Nintendo Switch for #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion members! Next week! It’s exciting to see this console available in another modern way (besides @XboxGamePass and Rare Replay), if only so we can watch lots of new players getting to work on “How to get into Grunty Industries.”
As mentioned earlier, this title is already available via Xbox Game Pass and in the Rare Replay collection. The trailer for the Switch Online version also mentions how the N64 version is “now in widescreen mode.”
Steven Miles, the “father of Banjo and Kazooie,” also wished everyone “good luck” in moving beyond Grunty Industries:
Some other rare titles previously added to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack N64 library include Blast Corps, the original Banjo-Kazooie, and GoldenEye 007. Some of their other older franchises like Donkey Kong Country and Battletoads have also been added to the service. .
