The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards select the funniest animal photos of 2022: see the winning shots

Wildlife photographers can see the funny side of Mother Nature when they are out in the field.

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, a free competition open to wildlife photographers of all levels, has narrowed down some of the highlights funniest moments for 2022, and they’re sharing it with the public.

According to the award’s press release, five thousand photographs were submitted from more than 85 countries.

The overall winner of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards this year is Jennifer Hadley, wildlife photographer from Austin, Texas.

Her photo of a three-month-old lion cub falling from a tree in Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem. The action shot was voted the overall winner, taking first place in the Creatures of the Earth category.

Hadley reportedly took the photo “Not So Cat-Like Reflexes” and wrote that the lion cub was likely making his first attempt at climbing a tree in her submission to the contest.

“I think part of what makes this competition so great is that most of these images are probably pure coincidence and that was certainly the case with the lion cub falling from the tree,” Hadley told the competition organizers in a statement.

β€œIt was very late in the afternoon and so my aperture was open as wide as possible to catch as much light as possible with the shutter lower than I would have liked, but I thought with the cub wandering into the tree, I didn’t and I remembered that she really needed To speed.”It didn’t even occur to me that he’d try to descend himself in the most uncat-like costume.”

The moment was harrowing, Hadley said, but the lion cub quickly regained its balance in the middle of the fall and landed on all fours of its paws – apparently unharmed.

As the overall winner of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, Hadley was awarded a handcrafted trophy, a photography bag and a safari tour with Alex Walker’s Serian Camp in Masai Mara, Kenya.

Hadley also won an Affinity Photo 2 People’s Choice Award for “Talk To The Fin!” The photo shows a Gentoo penguin apparently waving to its mates on a beach in the Falkland Islands South america.

Four other wildlife photographers took home major prizes from the annual competition.

France’s Jean-Jacques Alcalay won the Spectrum Photo Creatures of The Air Award for his photograph ‘Misleading African Viewpoints 2’, which shows a heron standing on the back of a hippopotamus swimming in Kruger National Park in South Africa. The second hippopotamus is close to the heron and opens its mouth in what appears to be a yawn.

Arturo Telle Thiemann of Span won Creatures Under the Water for his film “Say Cheeeeeeese,” depicting two gray fish swimming in front of him for an intense close-up in the North Atlantic waters around Faial Island, an island in Azores region in Portugal.

“until [though] They may look funny, and these fish can be very aggressive,” Thiemann wrote in his book Submit the photo. “In this case they didn’t try to bite me, but the domed port in my camera housing ended up with some scratches… life is hard… at least it wasn’t me who got hurt.”

Jia Chen, a wildlife photographer, won an award Amazing Internet Portfolio Award for his four-part photo series “Football Dream,” which shows Coopershawks in Ontario, Canada, pouncing and kicking pinecones in a football-like fashion.

India’s Arshdeep Singh won the Junior Award for his movie “ICU Boy!” Image showing a spotted owl winking at what appears to be a pipe nest in Bikaner, India.

Singh told the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards that he captured the owl on the last day of his trip to Bikaner.

“It was really funny when he came out and looked right at me, before he got inside he closed one eye and felt like he wanted to say ‘I [see you] Boy!’ Singh wrote in his submission for the contest and then immediately snapped a photo when he gave the pose.

Ten other wildlife photographers have received high marks from the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, including Michael Eastwell, Miroslav Srbe, Federica Vinci, Jagdeep Rajput, Emmanuelle de Linh Saint, Ryan Sims, Alex Pansier, Mark Schocken, John Chaney, and Martin Grace.

The highly praised photos were taken in the United States and Australia Cambodia, IndiaSouth Africa, the Netherlands and East Falkland.

Notable photos include a pair of bouncing wallaby, An occasional pegasus and a friendly raccoon who appeared to be waving to the camera.

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards was founded in 2015 by professional English photographers, Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Slam, both of whom identify themselves as “passionate conservationists,” according to the competition’s press release.

It was reported that Joenson-Hicks and Slam competed for a funny show Wildlife photos that provide “light-hearted comfort and joy”.

The competition was entered into with the Whitley Nature Trust, a wildlife charity based in the UK, which is said to have donated 10% of its net proceeds to the conservation group.
