Over the past few weeks, Samsung’s 2023 foldable lineup has been leaking widely. A lot of marketing images have surfaced, giving us a clear look at the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5. Both devices are rumored to use a new hinge that allows them to close completely flat. Now, the first alleged hands-on images of the Fold 5 have surfaced online, showing the phone folded completely flat, with no visible gap between the two screens.
Ahmed Koueider on Twitter Shared images of what appears to be the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Showing the phone from the top and bottom edges, though the images have since been removed due to Samsung’s takedown notice.
Apparently, the rumored waterdrop joint on the upcoming foldable allows it to close flat, without leaving a gap between them. This is unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 4, where there is a gap when the inner screen is closed. Apparently, the new hinge will also help eliminate creases on the foldable panel.
Another image compares the back of the phone to the Z Fold 4’s camera, showing the larger camera rings and the repositioned LED flash. Rumors suggest that Samsung will keep the same camera setup in the Fold 5 as its predecessor, though there should be processing improvements to deliver better results.
Another leak out @tweet He claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not be IP58 certified. Samsung’s current generation foldable devices are IPX8 water resistant, and there have been rumors that the 2023 model will gain decent dust resistance. But the latest leak seems to contradict that. It is unclear if the same is also true of the Flip 5.
Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, Galaxy Watch 6 and Tab S9 lineup at its Unpacked event in late July. Given how these devices have leaked over the past few weeks, expect more hands-on images to emerge ahead of the official reveal, with Samsung rushing to take them all down.
