“Oh, Mary!”, a raunchy, madcap comedy that imagines former First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln as an oftentimes wannabe diva, will move to Broadway this summer after becoming a surprise hit downtown.
The show, which is delightfully tasteless and also ahistorical, is the brainchild of Cole Escola, an alternative cabaret artist who built a cult following through a series of sketches on YouTube and reached a wider audience through a role on the show Difficult People. On Hulu.
The Broadway show is scheduled to begin June 26 and open July 11 at the Lyceum Theater. It is scheduled to continue until September 15.
“Oh, Mary!” It began life in January at the Lucille Lortel Theater in the West Village. This off-Broadway trade show has been extended twice and is scheduled to end on May 12. The show was sold out, and attracted a host of celebrities, including Bowen Yang, Timothée Chalamet, Amy Schumer, and Jessica Lange; One night, Steven Spielberg, who directed the 2012 film “Lincoln,” showed up with Sally Field (who played Mary Todd Lincoln in the film) and Tony Kushner (who wrote the screenplay).
“Oh, Mary!” Written by Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton. The Broadway show will feature the same cast as the Off-Broadway show, including Escola as Mary Todd Lincoln and Conrad Ricamora as Abraham Lincoln; It is produced by Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie and Carly Briglia.
