Miami – A cargo plane landed safely at Miami International Airport late Thursday night after an engine failure occurred shortly after takeoff.
According to Atlas Air Worldwide, the airline the plane belongs to, it landed safely after experiencing engine failure shortly after departure from MIA around 10:32 p.m., according to flight data provided by FlightAware. Miami-Dade Aviation told CBS News Miami that the plane landed at the airport around 11:03 p.m
A video provided by ONLY in DADE showed the plane flying through Miami airspace with what appeared to be a “trail of sparks” as it landed. Officials told CBS News Miami's Morgan Raynor that the engine caught fire, but the cause of the malfunction is under investigation.
Atlas Air told CBS News Miami that the crew followed all standard operating procedures to ensure the plane landed safely. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, no one was injured during the engine failure and no one was taken to the hospital.
An airline spokesperson said: “At Atlas, safety is always a top priority and we will conduct a comprehensive examination to determine the cause.”
