Akuma teaser for Street Fighter 6 released

Akuma teaser for Street Fighter 6 released

It's only been a few weeks since Ed released Street Fighter 6, and we've already gotten a glimpse of the demon coming alongside the game.

Capcom just dropped a big surprise teaser for Akuma in SF6 at the start of today's Capcom Highlights event.

The trailer begins with a roaring sound as we see glimpses of Akuma hitting a giant statue multiple times and sending shockwaves before a Gohadoken-like move sends cracks through it.

As the cave above him begins to collapse, Akuma flies off with a Goshoryuken that blasts through the rocks and the statue's head before we get a good look at him from below and then his famous backhand shot is shrouded in shadows.

Although there's no gameplay shown here, there are some hints about the moves he'll be performing in SF6 with some of the moves mentioned above included.

However, what's perhaps even more interesting is that during his grand utterance, Akuma wears the power of an Oni or perhaps an Asura, which could indicate a new mechanic for him or perhaps what level 2 of the Super Art will give him.

The official trailer information confirms that Akuma will come with a new world tour zone called Gokuento. Longtime Street Fighter fans may recognize this name as its Alpha 2 stage, and it appears to be an updated version of that design as well.

Since there's another new stage coming in the Year 1 Pass, it's likely that Gokuento will serve as that as well when Akuma is released.

We've already been able to see his new design in SF6's artwork previously, but this is the first time we've seen what the full Akuma will look like in the game.

His appearance is a bit bulkier than in Street Fighter 5 and previous entries, so we'll see if that has any effect on his speed or strength this time around.

Akuma has been included in at least one edition of every main Street Fighter entry since his debut in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo where he has almost always been a powerful entity to control or fight against, something fans have certainly been waiting for since SF6's debut in June.

Satan will of course wrap up the game's first year of content following the release of Rashid in July 2023, the release of AKI in September, and the recent arrival of Ed in late February.

No release date has been set for The Devil, but they confirm that it's still on track to release sometime this spring, which could be anywhere between now and mid-June.

You can check out the trailer for Akuma below which is approximately two minutes long.
