It's been nearly 18 months since Apple last updated its iPad lineup, and customers are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the new models. For months, there have been rumors about new iPad Pro and iPad Air models, but their estimated release time frame has been repeatedly pushed back from March to April to May.

In defense of these rumours, it appears that Apple has seen delays with the new iPads. Digi Times this week Citing sources from Taiwanese suppliers who say mass production of camera lenses for the upcoming iPad has been “repeatedly postponed,” the report vaguely notes that production will likely be “launched” in May.

BloombergMark Gurman reported last week that Apple is currently aiming to launch the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in “early May,” and said production of the devices has already ramped up in Asia. He said that Apple was still finalizing the development of iPadOS software for the new iPads, and added that advanced OLED display manufacturing techniques also contributed to the launch delay.

Apple is expected to announce the following products:

  • Two new iPad Pro models with the M3 chip, OLED displays, thinner bezels, thinner bezels, a matte display option, a landscape front camera, other design changes, and possibly MagSafe wireless charging.
  • Two new iPad Air models with the M2 chip and a landscape-oriented front camera, including the first 12.9-inch iPad Air.
  • A new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro with an aluminum casing, larger trackpad, and other design tweaks.
  • A new Apple Pencil, which may have a new “tap” gesture for certain actions and eventually support VisionOS.

Apple last updated the iPad Pro and iPad Air in October 2022 and March 2022, respectively, so the new versions of the devices are highly anticipated.
