Attack in Jerusalem: Palestinian terrorist who opened fire on a police station was killed

A Palestinian terrorist opened fire on Israeli agents at a police station in Jerusalem on Thursday night, wounding two uniformed officers, police said. The assailant was shot down In the midst of a new war between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas.

The attacker, a Palestinian native of Beit Hanina, fired at Israeli police officers with a submachine gun at a police station near the Old City.

“A terrorist armed with a submachine gun opened fire on police officers at the entrance to the Shalem police station in the Jerusalem district.Police spokesperson said.

The assailant tried to run away “Police officers chased him and neutralized him.”he added.

Another police spokesperson confirmed to the agency EFE that the assailant is dead.

A large number of police forces, including mounted police and trained dogs, were dispatched to the scene near the Damascus Gate of the Old City when a helicopter flew overhead.

“A search is being conducted in the area to rule out accomplices.”The police insisted.

Although the attacker’s identity has not yet been released, Israeli officials often label Palestinians who commit crimes for nationalist reasons as “terrorists.”

“Two police officers were injured, one is receiving medical treatment in a critical condition and the other is in a minor condition.”The police promised.

Emergency services have confirmed they are treating two officers.

Israel declared war on Saturday after Israel’s forces were on high alert following an unprecedented surprise attack by Hamas, the Islamist movement that rules the Gaza Strip.

The occupation included the firing of thousands of rockets and the incursion of 1,000 fighters into Israeli soil, who killed and abducted scores of people in Gaza’s border villages.

Since then, Israel bombed the Palestinian territories and armed clashes against infiltrating militants, in a war now in its sixth day that has left more than 3,700 dead on both sides of the border.

Since its attack, Hamas has called on Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem to join the offensive against Israeli forces, and Thursday’s incident was the first armed attack in Jerusalem since the war began.
