Sega confirmed the death of Sonic the Hedgehog on Friday. “He’s dead,” Sega said, in the announcement announcement killing sonic the hedgehogbrand new, official, and most importantly, free Mystery murder game Available now on Steam.

(Players will also enjoy the isometric mini-platformers, apparently, based on the trailer above.)

Sega notes that Kill Sonic the Hedgehog Not canon, which could give the company a way out to explain that Sonic the Hedgehog is in fact very much alive and will star in future video games, movies, animated series, and fan films, without diminishing the impact of the character’s true death.
