Shia LaBeouf Will Make His Movie Debut in David Mamet’s ‘Henry Johnson’ — Deadline

Shia LaBeouf will make his stage debut in the world premiere of David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning film, Henry JohnsonDirected by L word: generation x Showrunner, Marga Louise Ryan at The Electric Lodge in Venice, California. The ensemble cast includes Academy Award-nominated David Beymer; Mamet’s frequent collaborator, Dominic Hoffman; and Broadway’s Evan Jongket in the series’ titular role Henry Johnson.

“I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with David Mamet,” said LaBeouf. “His talent and creativity are unparalleled, and I am truly honored to collaborate with the greatest playwright alive. Henry Johnson is a unique and compelling story. It not only inspired me, but also pushed me to develop as an artist. Marga’s guidance and direction were invaluable, and I am grateful for the knowledge and wisdom he shared Evan is with me. Working with these artists has deepened my appreciation for the power of storytelling. I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from them and build with them.”

The play follows the plight of a man after an act of pity turns his life upside down. Opening is scheduled for September 1, 2023.

“Konstantin Stanislavsky wrote that any director who does something interesting with a script doesn’t understand the script,” said Mamet. “Most theater directors are only English teachers with the stage manager making tea for them while they confuse the actors. God forgive them, and God bless Ms. Ryan.”

The play is scheduled to run from September 1 to September 24.
