The NFL will evaluate and discuss “all plays” involving Deshaun Watson offenses on Tuesday

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson had a tough Monday. He could also face a difficult Tuesday.

Watson made not one but two blunders in Pittsburgh, grabbing a pursuing defender off the cage and throwing him to the floor. As Chris Sims and I discussed on Tuesday BFT LiveWatson looked frustrated – either by the fact that he could no longer escape chasing defenders or by what opposing players in close quarters were telling him about his off-field issues, or both.

When has any player made two blatant mask fouls in one game? When has a quarterback ever had one? It’s one of the original safety rules, dating back long before the years when the NFL downplayed and denied the dangers of concussions.

Even simple grabbing and pulling of a face mask is punishable and fined. Watson took it to the next level twice, throwing players onto the turf.

Then there was Watson shoving an official during the huddle that broke out after his first penalty for wearing a face mask. (And yes, it was a push.) Contact an administrator It always requires expulsion. It could, along with everything else, lead to suspension – in theory.

Will the NFL suspend a franchise quarterback (or at least a quarterback who is paid as much as him)? Officials may have looked the other way when he should have been fired. Will the authorities be influenced by his status and importance to his team and the game in formulating the penalty kick?

Whatever happened, someone needed to calm him down. Something got under his skin last night, and stayed there. Future opponents will certainly try to repeat this every week, until he shows that it does not frustrate him.
