Xbox Live service down

Microsoft’s multiplayer gaming and digital media network, Xbox Live, experienced technical issues on Tuesday as thousands of users reported problems accessing it.

Issues reported by users with Xbox Live began to spike around 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, according to monitoring site Downdetector. As of 2:25 p.m., more than 23,000 outage reports had been logged to the site, with more than three-quarters of them reporting problems logging in. Some Xbox Live users reported seeing an error message saying the service was undergoing “scheduled maintenance.”

Other Microsoft-run services, including Minecraft and the Microsoft Store, also saw a high level of user bug reports on Downdetector.

We’re investigating!” the message directed users to Xbox status page —which was eventually updated to say that a major outage with “Account & Profile” service was reported at 2:07 p.m. ET. “You may not be able to sign in to your Xbox profile, the connection may be disconnected while you’re signing in, or you may experience other related issues,” the message on the Xbox status page reads. “Features that require sign-in, such as most games, apps, and social activities, will be unavailable.”

Microsoft requires users to have an Xbox Live account (which can be set up for free) to play games online and access other experiences on the Xbox console, Windows PC, and Xbox mobile apps.

Xbox Live users took to social media to voice their opinions on the technical issues:
