Google’s mobile weather forecast got its first redesign in 7 years

More details in a more modern look

Google offers a notable way to check the weather on Pixel phones like Google Pixel 7 Pro. A small widget that shows the current weather on the home screen and lock screen, and when tapped, you get a detailed forecast complete with a cute weather frog spell.

Those without a Pixel phone may use Google Search to search for the weather more frequently, however, and if you do so through the browser rather than the Google app, you might be stuck with a design that first introduced more than seven years ago and saw small iterations that don’t make sense. her in the meantime. Thankfully, Google has finally updated the look and made it more detailed as well.

The first two: the old design. The last two: a new design.

When you search for weather on Google in a browser like Chrome, you’ll be able to see the revamped experience. The new display more closely matches the design Google displays in Search, with blue accents used to make it clear what dates or stats you’re currently viewing. It actually gives you more information at a glance than the old design, allowing you to see hourly weather forecasts without having to scrub into a schedule. Below, you can still see a daily forecast for up to 10 days in the future.

While this is indeed a welcome change, the new look goes beyond that. Tabs at the top of the card let you view details of precipitation, wind, and humidity—arguably important metrics when you want to know how to dress. Previously, these details were simply not available, which would force many people to visit a website listed along with the basic weather forecast.

On Pixel phones and in the Google app, the weather frog is still alive and well when you tap the weather forecast on your Pixel phone’s home screen. In the Google app on iOS, you’re still stuck with the old design. The new weather experience is only active when you search for it in your Android browser.
