Sir Elton John took to Instagram on Saturday to show his fans how he celebrated turning 76.
The ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ hitmaker had his big day with husband David Furnish, 60, and their two children Zachary Furnish-John, 13, and Elijah Furnish-John, 10.
He posted some snaps to his 4.4 million followers, showing off some huge pink and gold balloons, as well as a sweet gift of 100 oak trees.
While the trees were not fully grown, they were sprigs of acorns from an old tree that had been part of Sir Elton’s trail for years.
Described as “magical” and a “real celebration” the day was the delicious cake that stole the show.
Decorated with fondant, she saw Elton as an edible piano-playing version of himself, wearing a pair of his trademark specs.
Lying on top of the piano was Icy Snowy David staring into Elton’s eyes while their children were seen lying down, apparently listening to the songs playing in the imaginary scene.
Elton captioned the photos: “Absolutely loved my birthday!” A magical day with @davidfurnish and our two lovely sons.
“From the most amazing cake – to the gift of 100 acorns grown from the acorns off the ancient tree that had adorned my driveway for centuries, it was a real celebration.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the friends and fans who sent flowers and beautiful messages.”
The music legend then reposted a series of stories from famous faces congratulating him on the momentous event.
They included Taron Egerton, who played himself in the biopic Rocket Man, comedian David Walliams, actor Russell Tovey, and make-up master Charlotte Tilbury, among others.
Sir Elton, who is currently on tour with the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, has had a musical career spanning more than five decades.
He has sold over 300 million records worldwide and in 1998 was knighted for services to music and charitable work.
Husband David explained why the legendary singer wanted to take his final bow from the tour, telling Billboard:
For as long as I’ve known Elton, he’s been on the road, doing 90 to 100 shows a year. It’s a big commitment.
Elton is now planning to cut back on work to spend more time with his children, and will headline the last leg of his UK tour at Glastonbury in June.
