Margot Robbie Admits She Called Barbie A Billion Dollar Project – Deadline

Margot Robbie is not only a future star Barbie, She is also a producer. Which means, like her character, she often got carried away.

In an interview with colliderRobbie admitted a touch of hype over the film.

“I think my take on the green light meeting was that studios thrive the most when they are brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director,” she said of the use of Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig.

And then I made a series of examples like “Dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg, this and that, that and that – pretty much naming anything that’s been amazing and has made a lot of money for the studios over the years. So I said, “And now you have Barbie and Greta Gerwig.” And I think I told them it would make a billion dollars, which I may have been overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?! ”

Robbie wasn’t claiming to star in the car.

“I didn’t want our manager to be whoever – Greta is the first choice, but if she said no – I didn’t want our manager to feel pressured to put me in that position,” Robbie said.

So I was really vocal about being like, ‘I wouldn’t be offended at all. We can go to anyone. Whatever story you want to tell and who you want to be, I’m all for it. I have an appearance in the game as a producer, and I have no appearance in the game as an actor, so be free with that choice. And she was like, “Shut up, I want to write this for you.” And I said, “You might feel pressure to say it, but…” And we did this dance for a while. And in the end, she just accepted that she wanted me to play the part, and then she wrote that. Lee wrote in and Ryan wrote [Gosling] in, and our names were printed in the text from the get-go: “Barbie – Margot, Ken – Ryan Gosling.”
