Ronald Acuna Jr. fell to the ground as fans ran onto the field

Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. was unharmed after fans in Colorado ran onto the field and knocked him to the ground.

Denver — Atlanta Braves player Ronald Acuna Jr. confronted two fans in right field during Monday’s game at Corus Field, an encounter that left the star player falling to the ground.

In the seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies, an individual ran onto the field to take a selfie with Acuna, putting his arm around the player before security rushed over.

While security was working to remove the person from Akuna, another person ran onto the court and lunged at Akuna, apparently making contact with him and knocking him to the ground.

Acuna sat on the grass while security handled the personnel. He rose by his own strength. Atlanta had just scored four runs to go up 9-4 before the accident.

Apparently unharmed in the incident, Acuna smiled afterwards and flashed a thumbs up sign.

“You don’t want to see that happen, I know that,” Atlanta manager Brian Snicker said. “You don’t know what they’re going to do when they get out there. It’s a scary situation.”

Colorado manager Bud Black agreed. “It’s very disappointing for me, that this happens, especially in our stadium, in our city,” he said. “It bothers me. It bothers me in general when I see that elsewhere, in all sports.”

When asked further about the incident in his post-match press conference, Snicker said he had not seen it live because he was in the bathroom. When asked if he had seen anything like this before, he added: “Yes, a group.”

Acuna is one of the favorites for the National League’s Most Valuable Player award this season. He entered Monday batting . 330 with 28 home runs and 74 RBIs and had a standout game in the win.

Off center stage in Atlanta, he hit his 29th home run of the season and finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs and a walk in his club’s 14-4 victory.
