For this, the American company L3 Harris is constantly developing various projects focusing on a new electronic warfare pod. That’s why he presented his plan for the Next Generation Jammer – Low Band (NGJ-LB) competition launched by the US Navy last August.

The new pod, designed exclusively for the EA-18G Growler, seeks to replace outdated jamming systems that reflect the challenge against radars with advanced detection capabilities. It should be noted that L3 also developed an electronic countermeasures system for the United States Air Force (USAF) F-16 Block 70 called the AN/ALQ-254(V).

The new module, called the NGJ-LB, offers significant improvements in detection capability and the power required to engage anti-aircraft systems at close range, thereby improving aircraft survivability. By having a high equivalent radiated isotropic power (EIRP) system, the NGJ-LB increases the number of simultaneous targets the aircraft can engage, while reducing crew workload, reducing errors from the cockpit.

This system eliminates the system’s current limitations and increases availability and reduces maintenance compared to its predecessor, the AN/ALQ-99. Other notable features of the system are the increased spectrum of detectable frequencies, its interoperability (with both joint and combined forces) and its 360-degree detection field.
