Microsoft announced upcoming features in the September Xbox Update, such as Discord broadcasts, variable refresh rate support, and more [Update: As one IGN user helpfully pointed out, Xbox has supported VRR since launch. This update allows users to toggle it on, off, or for “gaming only.”]
in a post on Xbox WireNo release date has been set for the update, but Microsoft said it would come “soon.” The main feature for social gamers is the ability to broadcast your gameplay directly from your Xbox to your Discord friends.
Players looking to do this will need to link their Discord and Xbox accounts, but once they do, it’s as simple as hitting the Stream Your Game button.
On a similar social note, players can now request to join their Xbox friends, who can then send a party invitation, game invitation, or message in response.
The September Update also includes Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), which allows gamers’ TVs or monitors to adjust the refresh rate based on the content being displayed, providing a smoother experience while gaming. Players can adjust when VRR is active in the TV and Display options menu.
Microsoft is also putting the Rewards program on top of the Xbox OS. The “My Rewards” tab has been added to the pop-up menu when the Xbox button is pressed, and players can go directly to the “Redeem Rewards” page from here.
The September update includes some smaller features as well, such as wishlist notifications, an updated voice chat reporting system, and smoother accessory pairing.
