The Oregon State Beavers will be fighting for their postseason lives in Lexington this evening.
No. 15 OSU (45-15, 19-10 Pac-12) looks to rebound quickly against No. 2 Kentucky (41-14, 22-8 SEC) after suffering a big loss to the Wildcats in their Super Regional opener on Saturday. With the win, the Beavers will force a crucial third game on Monday.
With a loss, Oregon’s season would be over.
“Until the game was down 10-0, I thought we were still in it,” Oregon State coach Mitch Canham said. “We always feel that way. It’s a habit. You look at the lineup, the lineup card posted in the dugout, and you just imagine the success that each of these guys has had and how they’re going to step up and do it. It makes it easy when you see their names and know how hard these kids are working, and when you look at That lineup, you’re like, ‘Man, we’ve got this.’ When you look at the guys down the field, you’re always full of confidence.
“This is just a choice I make personally, to see the best in these people, because they work so hard.”
Oregon State is 6-3 in playoff appearances under Canham during his five seasons leading the program.

Top of 7th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon 2
Nolan McCarthy smashed the leadoff double, and that was the end of Jacob Camatz’s evening.
Sophomore lefty Nelson Kilgo came in relief.
Bottom of the 6th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon 2
Dallas Macias, Elijah Heinlein and Wilson Weber went down in order.
The Beavers still haven’t had success.
Top of 6th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon State 2
Jacob Kmatz stayed in the game and made three more walkouts on just nine pitches. His pitch number is now 99.
Beavers left-handed reliever Nelson Keljo began warming up in the bullpen midway through the inning.
Bottom of the 5th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon 2
Kentucky reliever Cameron O’Brien stayed put and covered Oregon State’s 1-2-3 hitters to retire the side in order. He struck out Travis Bazana and Micah McDowell.
Top of 5th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon State 2
Jacob Kmatz was retired from the top of Kentucky’s lineup in the standings. He’s on 90 pitches a night.
Bottom of 4th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon 2
Micah McDowell and Gavin Turley drew back-to-back runs to lead off the inning. Dallas Macias then popped out to shallow center field but Kentucky’s shortstop dropped the ball to load the bases.
Kentucky’s Mason Moore hit Elijah Heinlein with a curveball into the dirt for the first time of the inning. But then Wilson Weber and Brady Kasper drew back-to-back bases-loaded runs to tie the game.
Kentucky reliever Cameron O’Brien came out next and stopped the bleeding. The right-hander struck out Trent Caraway and Mason Guerra — both looking — to escape the jam.
Top of 4th inning – Kentucky 2, Oregon State 0
Mitchell Daly smashed a double off the left field wall to spark the Wildcats. He later advanced to third on a groundout. Ryan Nicholson followed with a walk to put runners on the corners, then Nolan McCarthy applied a perfect safety squeeze to drive home.
Trent Carraway made a great play in the third with a bunt to score the final out of the inning.
Bottom of the 3rd inning – Kentucky 1, Oregon State 0
Oregon No. 9 hitter Mason Guerra drew a solo walk to set the stage for Travis Bazzana. But the Beavers’ leading rusher hit a bunt in the first that led to a double play at the end of the inning.
Top of the third period – Kentucky 1, Oregon State 0
Camatz worked 1-2-3 on just 11 pitches.
Bottom of the 2nd inning – Kentucky 1, Oregon State
Elijah Heinlein, Wilson Weber and Brady Kasper retired in order.
Top of the 2nd Half – Kentucky 1, Oregon State
Nolan McCarthy smashed an RBI double to score Ryan Nicholson from first and put Kentucky on the board early.
Bottom of the first inning – Oregon State 0, Kentucky 0
Travis Bazana led off the inning by drawing his 76th career home run of the season, which ties him with Adley Rutschman (2019) for Oregon’s single-season home run record. But Mason Moore responded by striking out Micah McDowell and Gavin Turley, then forcing Dallas Macias to ground out to end the inning.
Top of the first half – Oregon State 0, Kentucky 0
Jacob Kmatz cut the top of Kentucky’s lineup in the pecking order. He ended the inning with a swinging hit to Wildcats catcher Devin Burkes.
