Kamala Harris Surprises ‘The Simpsons’ Fans at Comic-Con

Kamala Harris made one of her first campaign stops in Springfield.

US Vice President Surprised The Simpsons On Saturday, Disney sent a pre-recorded video message to fans during a panel discussion at San Diego Comic-Con for Fox’s long-running animated show, after creator Matt Groening introduced the “diehard fan.”

“We must move forward, not backward, up, not forward, and always move toward freedom,” Harris said with a laugh, quoting from the October 27, 1996 episode of Treehouse of Horror VII. The clip recently resurfaced after it was recorded by a group of University of Chicago students in 2013.

The episode aired during the 1996 presidential election between Bill Clinton and Bob Dole, with aliens Kang and Kodos mimicking the candidates in a debate. Kodos uttered this line while disguised as Clinton.

The Simpsons He has previously been credited with predicting the future, most recently after the 2000 episode “Bart to the Future” showed Lisa Simpson becoming the first female president, prompting further comparisons to Harris.

The event came as Harris traveled to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where her campaign said it hopes to raise more than $1.4 million. The campaign previously raised a record $81 million in its first 24 hours.

President Joe Biden had earlier endorsed Harris for the Democratic nomination shortly after he dropped out of the re-election race on Sunday.

Saturday’s episode created a buzz about upcoming episodes of The Simpsonsincluding episode 35 of “Treehouse of Horror,” which will air after Halloween.
