Kuo: iPhone 16 Pro demand lower than expected, iPhone 16 Plus pre-orders up 48%

According to the new Pre-order analysis According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is facing lower demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max than expected. However, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have seen higher sales compared to last year’s iPhones.

Coo did Some analysis Over the weekend, based on shipping times on Apple’s website, as well as a “supply chain scan.” Based on the first weekend of pre-orders, Kuo found the following:

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max price down 16% year-over-year
  • iPhone 16 Pro down 27% year-over-year
  • iPhone 16 Plus up 48% year-over-year
  • iPhone 16 up 10% year-over-year

Interestingly, people are showing much more interest in regular iPhones than the Pros this year, especially the larger model.

Overall, the iPhone 16 lineup as a whole sold about 37 million units, down about 12.7% from the iPhone 15 lineup in its first weekend. Despite the massive growth with the iPhone 16 Plus, the decline in demand for the iPhone 16 Pro far outweighed that.

Kuo said that higher revenue from the quad-prism (5x telephoto) camera is a major factor in Apple getting more supply for the iPhone 16 Pro Max than it did last year for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to Kuo’s numbers, Apple has produced 6 million units of the iPhone 16 Pro Max ahead of launch, up 106% from last year.

The analyst also says he believes Apple may implement more aggressive iPhone product strategies in 2025 to stimulate market demand, if Apple Intelligence and other promotions have a limited impact on iPhone 16 shipments.
