Tyreek Hill: It’s going great now.

Tyreek Hill: It’s going great now.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa still holds a special place in the hearts of the Dolphins. That means many players and coaches will be asking about Tua — especially those who work closely with him.

On Thursday, receiver Tyreek Hill was asked how Tua was doing.

“Toya is doing great,” Hill told reporters. “I’m sure you’ve asked everybody in the locker room about it, but he’s doing great. How things are going in the locker room — the biggest thing we want to do is make sure Toya is okay. One day I called him the next day or so, and I heard his voice, I heard he was in good spirits, and it just calmed me down, man. Because this is bigger than football to me. Our lives are bigger than football. We’re also individuals, we have families, we have things going on. As soon as I heard that, it was great.”

Hill was reminded of the fact that all players should do 1/11. Without Tua, should anyone do more than that?

“Stay consistent,” Hill said. “At the end of the day, you don’t want to do anything outside of your scope of work, because ultimately you’re going to be responsible for it, and you’re going to be held accountable for it. That’s why we train. Do what you’re trained to do, trust your fundamentals and your technique and you’ll be fine. When it’s time to play, it’ll happen.”

For now, Skyler Thompson will take over as quarterback.

“He’s a little faster than Tua, so I’m a little excited about that,” Hill said with a laugh. “Skylar does a great job of extending plays. As you saw, man, when he came in [two years ago] “When we played Buffalo, he did a good job of getting the ball forward and giving them different looks. He’s got some great qualities. He’s fearless, he’s not afraid of anything and he’s a real competitor. I love that.”

The Dolphins will play their first game of 2024 without Tua in Seattle. He will miss at least four games as he recovers from at least his fourth concussion.
