The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday night (02.10.2024) that 46 people were killed and 85 injured in “shelling by the Israeli enemy” in several regions of the country in the last 24 hours.
1,928 people have died in Lebanon since Israel and the Hezbollah group opened fire in October 2023, the Lebanon Crisis Center reported before that daily tally was released.
According to the Ministry of Health, the new attacks occurred in Lebanon’s southern regions of Al Nabatieh (South) and the towns and cities of Bekaa and Baalbek in the country’s northeast.
The deaths occurred mainly in south Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut called Dahye, a major Hezbollah stronghold in the capital.
Migration of 1.2 million people
At the same time, an intense Israeli bombing campaign has displaced nearly 1.2 million people, more than 74% of which are fully occupied.
The Lebanese government has registered only 160,000 people in shelters, or 13.3% of the total displaced population so far, forced to sleep on the streets of the capital and in other areas considered safe north of Beirut.
Conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah have existed since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip almost a year ago, but only two weeks ago when Israeli forces launched a massive bombing campaign that devastated entire towns and cities.
During the attacks, five people died Wednesday night in a bombing of a Hezbollah first-aid center in central Beirut, the health ministry said.
According to a source close to Hezbollah, five people were killed and eleven wounded in the attack in Bachura, central Beirut. AFP reporters in the city heard explosions and several buildings shook after the blast.
