One lucky Powerball player in Georgia won an estimated $478 million prize on Wednesday night, breaking the state’s nearly decade-long drought for a lottery jackpot.

The winning numbers were 2, 15, 27, 29, 39 and the red Powerball 20.

After matching all six numbers, the anonymous winner could take home the $478 million winnings paid out over 29 years or the one-time lump sum of $230.6 million.

It takes astronomical odds of 1 in 292,201,338 to win the Powerball jackpot.

Two ticket holders in Pennsylvania and Texas matched all five white balls to win $1 million.

Wednesday night’s win broke a two-month drought for Powerball jackpot winners. A California lottery player won the $44.3 million jackpot on August 19, 2024.

Married couple William and Heather ten Broek won the $246 million prize on September 17, 2016, but chose the cash value of $165,613,510.93.

The couple was shopping at a grocery store when Heather ten Broek reminded her husband to buy a lottery ticket for a raffle, According to WSB2.

After their win, they announced that they planned to spend the fortune on travel, family, investments and donating to charities.

A $77.1 million ticket was sold in June 2011 and went unclaimed.

Georgia lottery players typically have 180 days to claim their winnings, according to the state lottery website.

An unknown player from New Jersey, who bought a $1.13 billion Mega Millions ticket in March, has yet to claim the wallet, with just over five months left to claim the prize.
