By deploying 750 troops and 9 ships in the Amazon River, the Brazilian Navy is conducting a river exercise called “Operation Rebairex”.

From November 6 to 21, The Santarem area west of Pará (Brazil) was the scene of a river exercise called “Operation Ripirex”.. Under the coordination of the 4th Naval District (Com4ºDN) of the Brazilian Navy (MB), 750 personnel, 9 ships, 2 aircraft and fast warships are participating.

The exercise aims to train Marines and ship and air crews in operations in riverine environments. “Operation Repairex” also involves the participation of ships and sailors from the 9th Naval District Command (Com9ºDN) based in Manas.

To carry out the same, MB dispatched the auxiliary vessel “Pará”; hospital ships “Oswaldo Cruz” and “Soares de Meireles”; patrol boats “Bracuí”, “Bocaina” and “Pampeiro”; and river patrol vessels “Roraima”, “Rondônia” and “Amapá”. As part of the fleet fleet, UH-15 general purpose helicopters will be deployed along with two UH-12s.

Marines will train in the areas of river traffic control, infiltration, reconnaissance, landing and land conquest. During the operation, MB will provide medical and dental assistance to the riverside people.

According to a statement by Vice Admiral Antonio Capistrano de Freitas Bilho, Commander of the 4th Naval District “The operation will simulate the recapture of an area occupied by a paramilitary organization from a fictional country on the banks of the Amazon River. Participating troops will be tasked with identifying and neutralizing enemy bases and promoting control of river traffic in the conflict zone. “Ships passing through the Santarem area will be notified of the operation.”
