WhatsApp Improves Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Experience
WhatsApp has significantly upgraded its integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the systems that allow smartphones to connect wirelessly to a vehicle’s infotainment display.
Previously, users could access WhatsApp through CarPlay primarily for composing messages and making voice calls. With the latest update, drivers and passengers can now listen to incoming messages, reply to conversations, review recent call history, and quickly reach favorite contacts directly from their vehicle’s interface.
The expanded functionality is intended to make communication more convenient while using compatible in-car systems, providing access to more of WhatsApp’s core features without switching back to a smartphone.
Direct WhatsApp Registration Now Available on iPad
Standalone iPad Accounts No Longer Require Phone Linking
WhatsApp is also simplifying the setup process for iPad users by allowing them to create an account directly from the iPad app.
Since the launch of WhatsApp for iPad last year, many users had requested the ability to register without first connecting the tablet to an existing smartphone account. The company has now introduced that option.
Although users must still provide a valid phone number and receive a one-time verification code during registration, the completed account functions independently on the iPad. According to a WhatsApp spokesperson, the iPad account is no longer treated as a companion device linked to a primary smartphone.
The change offers greater flexibility for users who regularly work or communicate from tablets.
Music Sharing Comes to WhatsApp Status
WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that allows users to share songs directly from Apple Music and Spotify to their WhatsApp Status.
The company says the addition is designed to help people personalize their updates and share what they are currently listening to with friends and contacts. The feature expands the creative options available for Status, which functions similarly to disappearing stories found on other social media platforms.
Built-In PDF Viewing and Editing
Users Can Highlight and Annotate Documents Without Downloading
Another major addition is native PDF support inside WhatsApp.
Instead of downloading PDF files before opening them, users can now view documents directly within the app. Once opened, PDFs can be edited using lightweight tools such as highlighting and annotations without leaving the conversation.
According to WhatsApp, the new document capabilities are currently available on the web and desktop versions of the platform, making it easier to review and collaborate on shared files.
Latest Updates Continue WhatsApp’s Expansion
The new capabilities build on a series of recent feature launches aimed at expanding WhatsApp beyond basic messaging.
In recent weeks, the company introduced usernames, allowing people to share their WhatsApp profiles without revealing their phone numbers. The subscription joins similar “Plus” offerings already available for Instagram and Facebook.
