Chris Avellone resolves sexual misconduct allegations, claiming ‘seven-figure payment’

Game writer and designer Chris Avellone has reportedly settled a lawsuit after two women accused him of sexual misconduct.

The settlement rejects the claims against him “with prejudice”, “according to the confidential settlement.” Avellone claims the settlement includes a “seven-figure payment,” which includes the “return” of his legal fees.

After ‘Dealing With Mr. Avellone,’ Carissa Barrows and Kelly Rae Bristol Release a Joint Statement Published in Avellone’s personal blog Earlier in the day:

“Mr. Avillon never sexually assaulted any of us. We have no knowledge that he sexually assaulted any women. We have no knowledge that Mr. Avillon misused company funds,” the statement read.

“Anything we have said or written previously about Mr. Avellone to the contrary was not our intent. We wanted to support women in the industry. In doing so, our words have been misinterpreted as referring to specific allegations of misconduct that were not expressed or intended. We are passionate about the safety, security and agency of Women, minorities, LGBTQIA+ people, and every other community that has experienced oppression in the video game industry. We believe Mr. Avellone shares his desire to protect and uplift these communities. We believe he deserves the industry’s full return and support in those endeavours.”

Similarly, Avilon issued its own statement:

“I appreciate the willingness of Ms Barrows and Ms Bristol to work with us in addressing issues within the game community, and their advocacy should be commended and supported.

There are still many real challenges that we face but I am confident that we can face them together.

“In the spirit of these goals, I would like to ask everyone to respect the privacy of Ms. Barrows and Ms. Bristol and to use this opportunity as a way to listen to all voices in improving our culture and communities.”

After allegations of sexual harassment were posted on social media in 2020, studios working with Chris Avellone issued statements distancing themselves from him.
