Hours before the gates opened for the first day of Electric Zoo, the New York City-based EDM festival, its producers shut it down.
The festival published a message explaining the decision to cancel the day at 11:35 am on Friday; The doors are set to open at 3 in the afternoon. Among the artists scheduled to perform on Friday are Kx5 (aka Deadmau5 and Kaskade), Galantis, and Chainsmokers, among many others.
With a broken heart, we deeply regret to inform you that despite our tireless efforts and commitment around the clock, we have made the painful decision to cancel the first day of the Electric Zoo. Festival website is reading. “This year has presented unparalleled challenges for all. Global supply chain disruptions have affected industries all over the world and unfortunately, our beloved festival has not been immune. These unexpected delays have prevented us from completing construction of the main stage in time for day one.
People who purchase Friday tickets will receive a full refund. Those who receive multi-day passes will receive a partial refund of the one-day amount. The festival said people who purchased ferry and bus tickets to get to the festival on Friday will also receive refunds for their transport, with refunds prorated for those with multi-day transport plans.
However, festival organizers hope the Saturday and Sunday performances will go ahead as planned and be “magical”. Among the artists of those days were Zedd, Marshmello, Major Lazer, and Tiësto, among many others.
The letter concludes, “We ask for your forgiveness and understanding during this difficult time.” “We are very sorry for all the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause.”
