Academy Award winner Murphy returns to the iconic role of Tommy Shelby, the leader of a Birmingham mob family. Details of other roles are played close to the vest. The six-season BBC drama ended in April 2022, but that wasn’t the end of Tommy’s story. Plot details of the film are being kept under wraps along with details of the story set during World War II, which show creator Steven Knight shared with Deadline at the end of the series; Explains below.
The saga’s sequel was written and directed by Knight Becky alum Tom Harper. Knight produces alongside Patrick Holland, Murphy and Jay Healy. Executive producers include Harper, David Koss, Jamie Glazebrook, Karen Mandabach, and Andrew Warren. The film will be produced in collaboration with BBC Film.

“There is a wonderful sense of anticipation and excitement among our outstanding cast and crew,” Harper adds. “We are grateful to the fans who have brought us to this point and believe this next chapter will deliver something exceptional.”
