For the better part of a year, fans of the hit Western drama YYellowstone We’ve been looking forward to the behind-the-scenes tensions between the production and actor Kevin Costner, but the series’ latest behind-the-scenes drama involves a completely different star… and coffee?
Earlier this year, Cole Hauser, who appears on the series as fan-favorite cowboy Rip Wheeler, launched a coffee brand called Free Rein Coffee Company. Featuring ground coffee, whole beans and coffee pods in nearly a dozen roasted coffees with names like American Dirt, Homestead and Heavy Spur, the star has created a brand that “embodies the spirit of the West… the dreamer’s mentality and calloused hands.” One of these cowboys [Hauser] Impressed,” according to Rain’s free website.
While the company launched in early October, a lawsuit filed in late November may further complicate matters. On November 21, 2023 Bosque Farm Apparently, a Texas company sued Free Rein in the federal court for the Northern District of Texas in San Angelo for trademark infringement, citing unfair competition and false advertising. San Angelo Live The lawsuit reportedly alleges that Free Rein uses “a trademark that is strikingly similar to Bosque Ranch’s registered trademark, which may mislead consumers.” Both brands use a logo made of interlocking letters (BR in the case of Bosque Ranch and FR for Free Rein) which the ranch says bears too much resemblance, potentially confusing customers.
The suit is particularly notable due to the fact that the farm is owned by Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan, using it as a location to film the series as well as its predecessors 1883. (Sheridan also owns 6666 Ranch, which served as the setting for some episodes of the main drama, and has long been planned as the location for another spinoff.) Over the summer, the ranch launched its own brand The coffee branch is in partnership with Community Coffee.
Whether the new legal action will in any way affect the final episodes of the series remains to be seen Yellowstone— which is scheduled to begin filming next spring for the first time in November 2024 — remains to be seen, but with continued speculation about whether Kevin Costner will appear in the remainder of the series, the possibility of behind-the-scenes tensions with another prominent cast member is rife. . Dutton fans are certainly on edge.
