  • OnePlus and OPPO are said to be using small quad curved panels for their upcoming flagships.
  • The OnePlus 13 could be the first OnePlus phone to debut with this new design element.

The OnePlus 12 marks a welcome return for the brand, but the upcoming OnePlus 13 could be poised to offer an even bigger change.

in The last exchange on X (formerly known as Twitter), trusted tipster Yogesh Brar has suggested that OnePlus, along with sister company OPPO, may be using a “small quad curved panel” for its upcoming flagship phones. This tweet was in response to a claim that OPPO's next flagship, the Find X8 Ultra, will use a Micro Quad-Curved display. Let's analyze what this information means.

What is “Micro Quad-Curved” even?

This buzzword likely describes a display that features subtle curves on all four sides. We're familiar with curved side edges, but imagine those curves extending to the top and bottom as well, creating a smooth, almost bezel-free look. While the functional benefits may be minimal, the wow factor is undeniable.

Huawei has been dabbling in this space for a few years, and recently, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra was launched with a similar curved display called “Allaround Liquid Display.” It looks like the “small quadrilateral curve” might be OPPO’s name for itself. Clearly, smartphone companies seem intent on one-upping each other with flashy names for their latest design quirks.

Could this be OnePlus' big feature next year?

Of course, this is all speculation at the moment, but if Brar's hints are accurate, the OnePlus 13 could be the first to feature this visually distinct design in the US. Interestingly, the tweet suggests that some mid-range OnePlus devices may also get this treatment. While it's doubtful this will include the Nord series, we wouldn't be surprised if this new design language carries over to the OnePlus 13R, for example, if there is one.

The OnePlus 13 launch is still a long way off, but we can speculate that it will likely offer the usual performance improvements and, hopefully, address the need for a camera upgrade. Previous whispers pointed to a major design change for the OnePlus 13, which could result in doing away with the placement of the circular camera module attached to the side frame.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if OnePlus flagships started looking a bit like their fancy OPPO siblings.
