The USWNT will play Mexico in the warm-up period before the Paris Olympics in July

The United States women's national team will play Mexico at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, on July 13 in the Americans' penultimate game before departing for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the US Soccer Federation announced Friday.

It is expected that the Mexico match will be the third for new coach Emma Hayes, who will complete her first season on the sidelines of coaching Chelsea, where she has worked as head coach since 2012.

Mexico beat the United States 2-0 last month in the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in what was its second win in 43 meetings between the two teams.

The United States recovered to win the Gold Cup, defeating Brazil 1-0 in the final on March 10.

The Americans will play another home match after the July 13 match, although the exact date, location and opponent have not been announced.

The team will begin its Olympic journey on July 25 by facing Morocco or Zambia in Nice, France, before playing group matches against Germany and Australia.

The United States won four of the first five Olympic gold medals in women's soccer, but has not been on the podium since 2012, and won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Last year saw the worst World Cup finish in history after they were eliminated by Sweden on penalties in the round of 16.

The July 13 game at Red Bull Arena will see US Soccer honor the 1999 World Cup-winning team with a pre-match celebration and reunion of the team's players. This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the United States' World Cup victory on home soil, the second of four World Cup titles to date.

“This will be a fun and inspiring weekend,” Cindy Barlow Cooney, president of the US Soccer Federation, who played on the 1999 Women’s World Cup team, said in a statement.

“Fans will have the opportunity to show their support for the team before they head to France while we also celebrate our 1999 Women's World Cup team. This is a group of women who have done so much for the sport and the impact of this team and the tournament. “That feeling is still being felt 25 years on, especially as we apply “To host the 2027 Women's World Cup. I can't wait to see my teammates and friends.”

The United States and Mexico have submitted a joint bid to organize the 2027 Women's World Cup. FIFA will decide between this bid and a bid from Brazil and a joint bid from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands on May 17.

There are still six games on the US schedule before the 2024 Olympics: two in the SheBelieves Cup next month, two friendlies against South Korea in June – expected to be Hayes' first in charge – the Mexico game, and a farewell match at a later date. From July.
