Fresco – And suddenly, the main decision in the offensive line was no longer an “option”.
We don’t pretend to know all the ins and outs of employee decision-making at the Dallas Cowboys. We may agree with the powers that be in a potential gap in the list… but we may not share the complexities of why we see the answer differently than what Chief of Staff Will McClay and the Cowboys see.
money? injuries? Personal Issues? The NFL team is clearly more familiar with these details than most of us.
Which brings us to the Cowboys’ offensive line problems – which late Wednesday reached a critical point with a serious injury.
Left Handle Tyron Smith hasn’t played a full season since 2015 and won’t do again in 2022 after suffering a hamstring tear while training here at The Star.
We were told there were concerns that Smith would “be out for months”. So now it’s not just about tiny little oscillating interventions Late Rookie Matt Waltzko (he sustained a shoulder injury) or sophomore Josh Poole, who didn’t like him, got another shot at him On Saturday’s preseason game at the Chargers.
Now it comes to who starts when tackling the left. And about the swing, too.
In our view – while we also acknowledge the idea of kicking superstar rookie Tyler Smith to tackle (or even change Zach Martin), Dallas needs to add a couple of new episodes.
Isn’t it obvious that Eric Fisher — formerly the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, who played eight seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and was in the Pro Bowl as recently as 2020 — is an upgrade on the ball? And above Waltzko?
Fisher moved to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2021 season and was a full-time starter, and he was good enough for the Colts to attempt a comeback before the two sides could not agree on contract terms.
Last season, he was coming off a torn Achilles; It should be noted that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently boasted of Dallas’ success with players in those circumstances.

Is he old? Fischer is 31, the same age as Tyron and fellow Hall of Fame right-back Zack Martin.
Is he infected? Again, even after Achilles, he started in 15 matches for the Colts.
Is it expensive? Ah, there’s a catch, though, that doesn’t matter much to Dallas than it did the day before.
Fisher was a $12 million APY guy in his later years with the Chiefs. Last season he took a cut with a one-year, $8.4 million deal with the Colts. Currently, Drop Pro Football Focus Is it worth a three-year, $16 million contract?
The cowboys would already have looked for help; The search has just been ramped up, and there will be other names in this conversation, such as Daryl Williams, Jason Peters, Nate Solder, and others. …as retired Rams star Andrew Whitworth, who said Thursday he got the Cowboys call.
And yes, Dallas—knowing Tyron could miss the entire season—should devour two of them.
One to replace the ball.
One to replace Tyrone.
Tyrone, Duck Prescott’s blind side protector, has fallen. Dallas now needs a player at the level of Eric Fisher to step in on the left tackle to make sure the season doesn’t go with him.
