The Venice Film Festival will announce the lineup for its 80th edition on Tuesday at 11am ET (2am PT / 5am ET). Venice Artistic Director Alberto Barbera will be joined by Biennale President Roberto Cecotto to unveil this year’s titles.

The festival is usually a glamorous springboard for hopefuls of American awards and live and studio fare, but its plans for American buzzwords are thrown into disarray by a strike, which prevents SAG-AFTRA members from promoting their projects. MGM has already pulled a Zendaya-led tennis photo Challengers From Luca Guadagnino of the squad. The festival opening pic is set ahead of its September 15th launch. The festival chose the Italian World War II film Leader by Edoardo de Angelis, starring Pierfrancesco Favino, as an alternate opening film. In the same vein, Netflix’s Spanish survival movie La Sociedad de la Nieve (The Snow Society) From director JA Bayona will conclude the festival. Logic would infer that European titles will feature more in this year’s Venice lineup, with SAG-AFTRA members unable to attend and promote.
However, among the Hollywood headlines already widely thrown in Venice this year is Michael Mann FerrariBradley Cooper Musical band leaderSofia Coppola Priscillaand Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor things, which we hear is lido lock. We hear that Netflix will also likely be at the event with David Fincher’s the killerwhich would be another real coup.
first man This year’s competition will be chaired by director Damien Chazelle, who will also feature Salih Bakri, Jane Campion, Mia Hansen Love, Gabrielle Mainetti, Martin McDonagh, Santiago Miter, Laura Poitras, and Xu Ke.
