There are currently 627 developers working at CD Projekt Red, as the studio revealed during its conference Fiscal year 2023 earnings conference call403 of them are now dedicated to working on the Polaris project, which means The Witcher 4. Meanwhile, the remaining skeleton crew working on Cyberpunk 2077 updates has shrunk to 17 people, while the sequel, codenamed Project Orion, has a team of 47 people and is supposedly still in the early stages.
In response to shareholder questions after the conference, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski patiently explained that he would not be able to reveal the release date of the next Witcher game on a conference call. “Revealing the release date is basically part of the marketing plan and that's not something we're willing to do here,” he said.
However, Nowakowski spoke about the risks CD Projekt Red was taking by innovating in certain areas of the upcoming game. “to prepare [a] “A new game is always a creative risk, especially since we're trying to push new boundaries, explore new areas, and do something we haven't really done before,” he said. The next Witcher game is currently in pre-production, but CD Projekt Red plans to enter full production in the second half of 2024.
