American car enthusiasts (myself included) spend a lot of time lamenting The demise of the station wagon In the United States, but perhaps more annoying to wagon enthusiasts is the proliferation of wagons equipped with a lift kit and body cladding to make them more attractive to American buyers. These models include Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain And Audi A6 Allroadbut one of the most talked about things is Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

While the rest of the world gets all the accouterments of the long-roof Taycan with Sport Turismo looks, a traditional wagon without any of the SUV-like styling, we only get Sport Turismo on GTS model. Otherwise, if you want a Taycan wagon in the US, you're stuck with Cross Turismo, it gets a slight lift as well as plastic cladding on the wheel arches, more massive bumper designs and thicker side skirts. Obviously it's still a great car, but it's not as great as a regular wagon. Fortunately, there is a solution, as evidenced by the Cross Turismo game I saw Racing serviceToday's morning car show – you can just remove the cladding.

I haven't had a chance to talk to the owner about this particular car, but a quick Google search shows that this is a pretty easy process. One owner on Taycan forum I found that there were only three alignment pins per wheel arch, which could easily be filled with hole plugs. (If you choose the Off-Road Design Package option, only one will appear.) Because the Taycan I saw was painted black, I didn't even notice the plugs, and looking at the pictures now, they're so small that I don't think it would bother me if I were an owner.

The owner of this Taycan left the unique bumper designs and side skirts for the Cross Turismo, which I think look really cool even without the wheel arch cladding to go with it. Helping with that cool factor are the 21-inch Rotiform TUF wheels, which I think suit the Taycan perfectly.

So, if you are interested in getting… Taycan Wagon But you don't want the SUV trim, don't let that stop you from getting the electric long roof of your dreams. With a little hand work, you can make it look sporty and clean – and the Cross Turismos are equipped with adjustable air suspension, so lowering the ride height to normal levels should be a breeze, too.
